Amanda Carey (WN/Kenda) NUE Series Champ can CX! She gets 5th at Jingle CX.

  • Is there any question that Amanda's focus was racing a 100 mile mtb race for 8 plus hours. It's very different than a sprint of less than 45 min cx.
Amanda (WN/Kenda Pro) is getting her sea legs or was that land legs or better, cx legs? Perhaps she will be in the hunt at USGP in Portland, OR.

The Kenda mtb pro is a good story!

Sue Butler - takes OBRA CX Championships

"A picture tells a thousand words, but you have to know what you are talking about"

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

Delayed post: Fort Collins was a no go, OBRA CX Championships, & Kruger's.

So, when your mom calls to make sure everything is o.k. because your blog is not updated, you know it has been too long since your last blog entry. Well, to be honest, the weekend before last, not going to Fort Collins and still being sick was not exciting or fun and really not blog worthy. Granted, I got a nice weekend relaxing a the cabin out of it, but frankly, I would have rather been racing. Tim still raced and got a podium on day one, finishing 2nd, then 7th on Sunday.
This past weekend, I got my wish. I was back in the saddle racing. OBRA Cyclocross Championships on Saturday and Kreugers on Sunday. The state championships were a blast. A super muddy, slick course, but it was not raining. It was good skills practice and a really fun course. A long slippy sidehill. It was a good first race back, and I claimed another OBRA State Championship. My first in CX, but my third for the year. I went from never having won one, to three in a year. Not bad.

Sunday I had to volunteer at Krugers. Our morning started out with car trouble., but we arrived just 15 minutes late for our shift. Then at the last minute, I decided to race the Singlespeed race instead of the women's race, b/c the weather was deteriorating fast. 1:00 start time vs. 3:00 start time. It was muddy. It was cold. My single speed was severely under geared (which I may have known, had I raced it or ridden it before) and I could not spin my legs fast enough to go fast. But I had fun. I had to stop and borrow someones towel to wipe my mouth off. I didn't want to get Giardia and I had already eaten enough mud. We were on a farm, after all. So, I finished, freezing, covered in mud, shivering, unable to get my muddy ucky clothes off fast enough. I made a mess in the Tahoe, but we got home and were fed, clean and showered hours earlier than I would have been had I stayed and raced against myself in the women's race.
So, that brings us up to date. Mom, I hope you won't worry anymore. Thanks for the call! Perhaps I shouldn't post as often, then my mom would call me more. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Attention to Detail - Tom Coleman "Pedaling Geek"

Is being viewed as a super geek a bad or good thing? That depends! In the words of our rivals it seems to be a way to discredit what we do.

Rivals -
a person or thing competing with another for the same objective or for superiority in the same field of activity, we view it as a badge of honor.

To have worked with the best ski and cycling racers in the world doesn't come from not providing serious attention or consideration applied to doing something correctly?

If being good at something is viewed as being "geeky" then so be it. The truth, no one knows what the constraints are for our CAD and they never will.

Does our CAD and teachings make a difference? How can you measure success? Ten years of results!!! That has really struck a nerve in the industry! Too bad!!! WN is always going to go the extra mile, you can count on it!

We have a new dealer here training this snowy week, who has been in the bike fitting game for about 20 years. Chris Balser is his name and he just fitted a racer from the Radio Shack. It seems the guy was fitted with a led fit system in TX., it didn't work for him as he lost wattage? Check out the systems Chris has used!

Why with all that sizzle, why would he come to WN to train and learn? Because we are the real deal, regardless whatever the rivals spread!

Too funny, Chris informed there are people in the bike fitting industry, who I don't even know calling me a "super geek."

A geek is someone who has an intense interest in a particular subject/s. He/she engages in active strategizing, thinking and engagement in relation to that subject/s. It is someone who embraces a particular subject/s and spends considerably more time and effort on that than the average person.

We are not average! We do spend considerably more time and effort on the subject!

In our mind, that is what a pro does! Its your job! We are not just weekend warriors, or just showing up when a a person needs a bike fit.

You better have "thick skin" in this cycling business! Someone wants to undermine everything you do! Or better attempt to copy you in some way? That's all they can do, is trash talk!!!

La Ruta Stage1: Ben Sonntag 1 & Alex Grant 3rd.

La Ruta is one tough race and it takes a good understanding of things to do well.

Note: J. Bishop is a WN fast guy and so was his last year teammates, he's a digging to keep up at their race camp as they have Sue Butler yelling at them to @%#^& as we hit 28mph uphill.

Perhaps a way to put a spin on things? Was that the Magnus effect or was that Magnus force?
No matter, to summarize, Ben Sonntag (WN) took stage 1 and his teammate Alex Grant (WN) is right there!

USA suffer pros Rebecca Rusch, Alex Grant, Ben Sonntag Pre La Ruta "Suffer Fest"

Check out the pre race chat with US racer Alex Grant (WN Cannondale), German racer Ben Sonntag (WN Cannondale) and US racer Rebecca Rusch at www.cyclingdirt.org

We know how these folks know how to suffer, we even know their body types, after all they all used our WN precision to get better at one time or the other. WN spent many hours working with these racers, teaching them how to get more from their sport! We wish them all the best, as this race will hurt you.

Alex Grant got 2nd last year and his number is two. Pressure is on!!!

Ben Sonntag got 8th last year after many issues, he calls it a full on "suffer fest" for human and bikes. If something breaks, it will break here.

We where on the phone with Matt Oran who is a rep for Cannondale. Matt was to provide support for the Alex & Ben, but might even race. He got an ear full of tips to make him go, should he do so.

All racers worry about how the mud sticks on a bike, sometimes the weight gets up to 40+ lbs.
Rusch is going with the 26 vs. 29 for that very reason. She is a very strong women, but weight is weight and she knows how much mud can cake on those big wheels.

To be able to watch this live is very cool at www.cyclingdirt.org

Success off track! Chris Rosado's Story!

Some feedback from an online home user! This is not hype, its the truth!

Chris Rosado took the time to get it right and it made a difference. Many times you can't get support, not in our camp!

Getting a WN fit and Tom Coleman’s personalized approach has helped me get back on the bike and riding stronger than ever. I’m 38 years young and suffered 2 herniated discs in October of 2009. Earlier in 2009 I had a fit done by John Cobb through a local performance lab in Houston Texas. I had been racing since 2005 and wanted to get a bit more competitive. Later that year I injured my back on a training ride and was forced to take nearly a year off. As I took time off and tried to recover from my injuries, I tried to get back on the bike every couple of weeks with terrible results. As I began to feel better, my confidence would rise and I would jump on the bike. I would suffer a setback every time until my research led to Wobble Naught. I spoke with Tom over the phone and explained my problem. He was confident he could help, so I gave it a shot. I’ve been back on the bike since and my back has been getting better and better by the week. The key to my recovery was finding a neutral position and learning proper pedaling mechanics. Tom helped every step of the way, he kept his promise and in 12 short weeks, I’ve regained most of my form. There are a lot of folks out there that claim to be experts in bike fit. Forcing a lower position and getting as low as you can in a neutral position are very different things. Forcing a lower position opens the door to injury. Having a neutral position and learning how to stabilize your spine, are a huge part of a good fit! Thanks Tom!

For many years, my list of to do's has included completing and competing in an Ironman distance triathlon.
I did and I took the WN.

Would I do another one? Absolutely.

I hope you have a wonderful week and talk to you later!
